Tuesday Traveler - Florida Lighthouse Tour – Chapter 2 – Key West Lighthouse

As some of you know, I started my Florida Lighthouse Tour earlier this year.  It started with the lights in the Florida Panhandle and a few weeks ago I took at trip to Key West.  While there are many lighthouses throughout the Florida Keys, eight of them, I only went to the one located on the island (key) of Key West (Key West Lighthouse and Museum).



Even though our primary trip to Key West was for some relaxation and exploring, the number one thing on my list was the lighthouse.  So 'Let's Go' to the lighthouse and the town of Key West Florida.

Tuesday Traveler - Florida Lighthouse Tour – Chapter 1 – Lights of the Panhandle

In planning my drive to a house/pet sitting assignment in Pass Christian Mississippi (MS), I decided to start a tour of the Florida lighthouses.

Mapping the locations of the lights, I discovered the FL panhandle had a total of five with one more in the junction of the bend between the FL peninsula and panhandle.  With the close proximity of five lighthouse, and estimating how long I would explore each light and travel time, I choose to visit the five lighthouses in this post on my way there and have plans to visit another one on the way home.

I’ve often been asked and pondered this very question; ‘What is the Florida Life’.  After talking with lifelong and longtime Florida residents, as well as visitors to our state, here’s my conclusion.

Tuesday Traveler - The Migration Has Started - November 22, 2016

What do you think of when you hear ‘The migration has started’?  By definition, migration is the seasonal movement of animals from one region to another.

Maybe you think of; migratory birds flying from the north to the south,or wildlife moving from the mountaintops to the valleys.




For those of us in warm weather states like Arizona, Florida, Texas, and others along the US Sun Belt, we often think the snowbirds (defined by WikiPedia) are coming.  These migratory creatures, mainly retirees, temporarily relocate from their permanent ‘home’ to their ‘winter home’.

Let’s Talk About Rum

This posting is very different from those normally found here.  It’s one I’ve been studying for quite a few years now, and those that know me personally will vouch for the results.  I must preface this with a few disclaimers.  First, all the testing was done by me, there were no controlled or scientific methods applied, and it was all done responsibly (to an extent) in confines of my home or that of friends.

TUESDAY TRAVELER - Christmas 2015 With Family

Oh, the joy of spending Christmas with toddlers.  Christmas 2015 was another special day; it would be the first Christmas for Weston, the youngest of my three grandsons.  Grayson, his older brother, and their cousin, Oliver would have grandpa's undivided attention.

TUESDAY TRAVELER - Tarpon Springs, FL - The109th Annual Greek Epiphany

The sun casts long early morning shadows, temperatures in the mid-60s, and the water is like glass.  We search for a place to launch kayaks.  There it is, a walkable incline, floating dock, secure parking, and a short walk from the van to the water.  IT"S BLOCKED.

‘Copter Bill’, a local friend, who is a quad copter (drone) pilot/photographer, parked the van and we readied our equipment.  As we placed our cameras and drone near the incline we saw law enforcement looking on.  No shouts denying or giving us permission to be there, we continue.

Under their watchful eyes, we unload the kayaks, launch them, and transfer our equipment from the shore; still no shouts from law enforcement.

Van secure, kayaks launched, equipment loaded, we climb aboard, and paddle to Spring Bayou.

Many of us "travel", but how many of us consider day and weekend trips to nearby locations as traveling?  Until a couple months ago, I only considered it traveling when I would spend a few days to several weeks away from home.  Is that how you feel?
